Travels with Paul and Wendy

Sunday 30th Dec

After a good night's sleep, interrupted only by a low flying plane, we finally awoke at around 8am. But it took us over an hour to get down to breakfast, which they had just finished serving. Fortunately our plight was recognised and we managed to enjoy our late-ish breakfast.

After breakfast we struck out to see what San Jose had to offer. First stop was around the corner to find the Jade museum, it was closed. We walked around the Parque Espana and then the nearby Parque Morazin, apparently much more attractive in the daylight than after dark - you never know what you're likely to pickup.
We wandered around the down town area past the Metropolitan Cathedral, Parque Central and the National Theatre.

After this we struck out for the Parque Metropolitano La Sabana. It was a bit of a hike along the Paseo Colon but worth it when we got there. The park was the site of the country's main airport. It was landscaped to form a spacious and popular park. The airport terminal is now a museum of Costa Rican art, it was closed.

We had a good wander around the park. There was a series of zip lines, mounted police and a samba style percussion group; not to mention the ducks.
We also looked for the Museo de Ciencas Naturales La Salle with its extensive collection of stuffed animals and butterflies. Perhaps fortuitously we couldn't find it. So we headed back to the centre and had a late-ish lunch in the splendid Gran Hotel Costa Rica. Our 1st choice resturant Lubnon had been closed.

That evening we met up with the rest of the GAP Adventures Comfort tour party and our laidback leader Erick.
